- Look around for an old and unused cabinet. If you don’t have one at home, try asking your friends or relatives. They might have something hidden in their garage and have completely forgotten about it.
- Try to browse the internet for possible designs. A baby’s cabinet usually has alphabets and animals and covered with bright colors. If you are a new to this, you can start with the ABC’s.
- Identify the color you want for the cabinet which largely depends on the gender of your baby. You can opt for neutral colors if you are unsure.
- Decide on the materials you will be using to cover the cabinet. There are 2 options: You can paint it or use a wallpaper, whichever suits you. A paint is hard to remove and will require a lot of work, but a wallpaper is quite easy. In addition, a wallpaper has many patterns available.
- Gather the building materials such as a hammer, saw, nails, and screwdriver. You will also need hinges and knobs to complete the nursery cabinetry.
- Build the cabinet. Don’t forget to use a mask to avoid allergic reactions to sawdust. Make sure that there are no rough edges. It won’t be long before your baby will become a toddler which is known as the stage of experimentation. You don’t want your baby’s tender fingers punctured.
- If you will be painting it, use a hypoallergenic paint, paintbrush, and a small roller. Put newspapers around you to avoid direct spills on the floor. You can also use a spray paint.
- If you will be using wallpaper, you will need a spray adhesive and utility knife. Make sure there are no air bubbles upon application. Coat the wallpaper lightly to avoid having sticky marks on the cabinet and for easy removal in case you decide to change the wallpaper later on.
